A TikTok content creator, Emmanuel Ajibade, appeared before an Akure Magistrates’ Court on Thursday over allegations of cyberbullying a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, informed the court that the incident occurred at the Higher Height area, Orita Obele in Akure, where Ajibade, along with others still at large, was accused of engaging in cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and defamation.
Oniyere alleged that the defendant used the TikTok account “checkers69” to disseminate false and offensive content intended to cause public nuisance, provoke insults, and damage the reputation of FRSC official, Ibitoye Samuel.
The post reportedly caused distress, fear, and hostility toward the officer.
The offences, according to the prosecution, violate Sections 27(b) and 24(b) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015.
The prosecutor requested the court to remand Ajibade in a correctional facility, citing Section 269(2)(b) of the relevant law.
In response, defence counsel A.F. Awala requested a brief adjournment to allow time for filing a counter affidavit.
Chief Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi ruled that the defendant be held at the SWAT Police Station and directed the police to ensure he receives necessary medical care.
The case was adjourned to April 30, 2025, for further mention.
