The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man, Kelvin Okoro, for allegedly murdering a Reverend Sister in the Aluu community, located in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

According to local reports, the suspect was indebted to the victim, identified as Maureen Wecheonwu, and had reportedly been under pressure from her to repay the loan.

Sources claimed that Kelvin lured the nun to an isolated location under the pretense of discussing the debt, only to violently attack her.

Eyewitnesses said her body was later discovered in a pool of blood by local residents, who quickly informed the community’s security group.

A source familiar with the incident said the Reverend Sister had recently complained about Kelvin’s refusal to repay the money she lent him. Her tragic death has shocked the community.

“After taking her to a quiet path, he allegedly struck her multiple times with a heavy object,” the source revealed, adding that the suspect fled with some of her personal belongings.

In the wake of the murder, Kelvin’s sudden disappearance raised suspicion among locals, prompting members of the community vigilante group, OSPAC, to intensify their search.

Led by Commander Kingsley Wali, the group tracked him down to a hideout, apprehended him, and handed him over to the police.

Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry.

“Yes, I can confirm the incident. An investigation is currently ongoing,” she stated.
