Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, is currently engaged in a closed-door discussion in Abuja with the striking workers of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) as part of efforts to address the ongoing industrial action.

The strike, earlier reported By AFRIPOST, began at midnight on Tuesday, and it has caused significant disruptions in the aviation sector.

NiMet workers, supported by their unions, initiated the action after repeated warnings to the agency’s management regarding unmet promises related to staff welfare and other grievances.

As the strike continues, its impact on flight operations has become evident. While some airlines, such as XEJET, Aero Contractors, and Ibom Air, were able to operate on Wednesday, Air Peace grounded all its flights nationwide.

In an official statement shared via its X (formerly Twitter) account, Air Peace explained that the suspension of its services was due to the unavailability of critical weather reports, which are essential for flight safety.

The statement, signed by the airline’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ejike Ndiulo, stressed that the safety of passengers remained the airline’s primary concern.

“Due to the ongoing NiMet strike and the lack of CNH (hazardous weather) reports required for safe landings, Air Peace has suspended all flight operations nationwide until the situation is resolved,” the statement read.

By Thursday afternoon, the consequences of the strike were becoming more apparent, as passengers were seen waiting in terminals at Lagos airport, hoping for updates on delayed or canceled flights.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), confirmed via a post on X that Minister Keyamo was in a meeting with the unions, the acting Director-General of the NCAA, Capt.
