A young herder, identified as 30-year-old Muazu Anaruwa, was found dead after suspected bandits attacked Kogon Dutse village in the Old Muri district of Taraba State.
The incident, which occurred on April 22, has sparked concern among locals over rising insecurity and cattle rustling in the area.
According to reports gathered by security analyst Zagazola Makama, Muazu had gone out to graze his family’s livestock but failed to return.
His father, Alhaji Audu Anaruwa, raised the alarm after his son’s prolonged absence. A search team later discovered Muazu’s body at the grazing field, with visible gunshot wounds. All 40 cows he had taken with him were missing.
Local authorities and residents confirmed the attack was carried out by armed bandits.
Muazu’s remains were taken to the Primary Healthcare Centre in Andami, where medical officials pronounced him dead. He was buried shortly afterward in accordance with Islamic customs.
Security operatives, alongside local vigilantes and hunters, have since launched an operation to track down the attackers and retrieve the stolen cattle.
