The notorious figure known as Baba Beru believed to be behind a wave of armed robberies and assaults in parts of the Kano metropolis, was killed on Tuesday during a face-off with law enforcement officers.
According to local accounts, police operatives encountered the suspect during a routine patrol in Gwammaja.
In a bid to avoid capture, he allegedly attacked one of the officers with a knife. The team responded immediately, using lethal force to neutralize the threat.
Security operatives later confirmed that the suspect died at the scene.
His actions had instilled fear in the community for months, and residents said they had long awaited such an outcome.
“We’ve been living in fear because of this man,” said one local. “We’re glad the police finally took action.”
Celebrations reportedly broke out in some parts of Gwammaja following the news of his death, as residents described it as a turning point in their battle against neighbourhood crime.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, but locals continue to commend the police for restoring a sense of safety to the area.
