The Kaduna State Government has officially reversed the sales of institutional properties executed during the tenure of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
The revoked transactions involved plots and buildings situated within Alhuda-huda College in Zaria, Queen Amina College in Kaduna, and Government Commercial College in Zaria.
Governor Uba Sani issued the revocation order, which was communicated through a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. AbdulKadir Mu’azu Meyere. He stated the move was necessary to protect public interest and uphold the greater good.
“In its commitment to strengthening human capital and creating a learning-friendly environment, the Kaduna administration under Senator Uba Sani has cancelled all past allocations and sales of lands and institutional properties within the specified schools,” Meyere announced.
According to him, those who legally paid for the properties will be reimbursed accordingly.
“The decision to revoke the sales was approved last year, and notifications have since been sent to all affected individuals,” he noted, adding that arrangements for refunds are currently in progress.
Governor Sani believes that educational growth requires distraction-free learning environments. “Education is not just a tool for equity; it is a bridge to better opportunities. It changes lives and uplifts communities,” the statement quoted him as saying.
Since assuming office, the governor has made notable investments in education infrastructure, including the reduction of tuition fees at state-owned tertiary institutions in August 2023.
He has also prioritized constructing new primary and secondary schools and rehabilitating old ones.
To date, over 2,336 classrooms have been newly constructed, while 707 have undergone renovations.
Additionally, 3,704 teacher desks and 30,742 student furniture units have been supplied across the state.
The government has also improved school sanitation by installing 918 toilet cubicles and drilling 51 boreholes in various local government areas.
