On Tuesday, the executive council of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) in Benue State announced the suspension of its indefinite strike.
This decision was communicated in a memo signed by JUSUN Chairman Terlumun Aba in Makurdi.
The memo was addressed to the Chief Registrar of the State High Court, directors at the Ministry of Justice, and judiciary staff.
The Benue branch of JUSUN had initially gone on strike on December 6, 2024, protesting the non-implementation of the new minimum wage.
Although Governor Hyacinth Alia had approved a new minimum wage of N75,000 for all state workers in the final quarter of 2024, the union rejected the figure.
The memo explained that the national headquarters of JUSUN had given approval to suspend the industrial action due to a favorable response from the Benue State government regarding the union’s demands.
Consequently, the chairman, Comrade Terlumun Aba, instructed all judiciary staff in Benue to resume work immediately on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, and refrain from further escalation of the strike.
The memo concluded by thanking the judiciary staff for their cooperation during the strike period.
