Over 60,000 Nigerian educators, both from public and private schools, are set to gather in Lagos this September to attempt breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of teachers in one location.
The monumental event will take place at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) on September 20, 2025.
Oluwaseyi Anifowose, the Director of Strategic Partnerships for 1 Million Teachers, revealed the details during a press conference in Ikeja, Lagos. The conference, titled “Let There Be Teachers Conference 2025,” will feature the theme “Teachers’ Matter: Celebrating the Role of Teachers in Enhancing Quality Education.”
Anifowose, who is also the convener of the event, explained that the Lagos State Government had not only approved the event but is also offering its support.
The government has granted permission for all public school teachers to attend the conference, and various stakeholders, including the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), will also participate.
“We are proud to announce that over 60,000 teachers will gather at the Tafawa Balewa Square to celebrate their vital role in society, reaffirm their commitment, and attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of teachers,” Anifowose said.
“This event is not just about breaking records, it’s about challenging the status quo, transforming perceptions, and raising the bar for teachers in Nigeria.”
The event will also feature keynote speeches from key education leaders, including Dr. Tunji Alausa, Nigeria’s Minister of Education, alongside national and international education experts.
A “call to action” communique advocating for teacher-led education reforms will also be presented.
Anifowose, who described becoming a teacher as a conscious choice, emphasized the importance of teachers in shaping society.
“Teachers are the cornerstone of societal progress. This event will mark a new era where teachers in Nigeria are celebrated and recognized for their invaluable contributions,” he added.
The CEO of 1 Million Teachers, Prof. Hakeem Subair, reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that every child receives quality education by creating a world with an abundant supply of skilled and passionate educators.
