Reno Omokri has called out Pastor Tunde Bakare over his recent condemnation of President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, accusing the clergyman of being driven by personal disappointment rather than genuine concern.
While preaching to his congregation on Sunday, April 20, Bakare criticized Tinubu’s administration, describing his leadership style as a “motor park brand of politics.”
He further alleged that the President had turned the National Assembly into a body that merely carries out his wishes.
In a swift response shared on Instagram, Omokri claimed Bakare’s outburst was fueled by his failed attempt to clinch the APC presidential ticket in 2022, where he secured zero votes.
“Tunde Bakare wanted to be President. He contested against President Bola Tinubu and lost woefully,” Omokri wrote.
“He is not speaking as a pastor or prophet. He is speaking as a defeated and bitter rival who is covetous of the President’s position.”
Omokri argued that it is unrealistic to expect a fair opinion from someone who once aspired to the same office, comparing the situation to “expecting Kanye West to speak positively about Taylor Swift after losing a Grammy to her.”
He also mocked Bakare’s previous claim that he was divinely destined to become Nigeria’s 16th president, pointing out that Tinubu now holds that title.
Omokri concluded by questioning the pastor’s credibility, recalling that Bakare once dismissed Muhammadu Buhari’s relevance to Nigeria’s future, only to later run with him in 2011.
