Troops arrest 55-year-old suspected Kidnapper in Kano, recover weapons

A 55-year-old man suspected of kidnapping has been arrested by troops of the Joint Task Force in Tundun Wada during a security operation in Sumana village, located in Tundun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday by Capt. Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army.

According to the statement, the suspect was taken into custody on April 20 and later presented to the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur.

The parade took place during the commander’s visit to troops at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Falgore, Doguwa LGA, where he marked the Easter celebration with them.

Brig.-Gen. Tukur commended the troops for their courage and professionalism in carrying out the operation. During the mission, several weapons and other crucial items were recovered.

Among the recovered items were a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, a Den gun, nine rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, and a woodland camouflage uniform.

Additional items included a desert camouflage outfit, a camouflage vest, and a Bajaj motorcycle seat, which is suspected to have been used for hiding weapons.

The commander praised the operation as a significant success in the ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and restore peace in the region. He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s dedication to working with other security agencies and local authorities to ensure safety across communities.

“The Nigerian Army remains committed to its duty of protecting lives and property. We will continue to pursue justice and ensure that those involved in criminal activities are held accountable,” the statement read.

The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation.p
