Veteran Nigerian musician, Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, has cleared the air regarding widespread rumours of his death, affirming that he is alive, in good health, and full of life.
On Tuesday morning, the music icon released a video to reassure fans, energetically addressing the false reports with a musical performance that blended Yoruba, English, and Pidgin.
Introducing himself in the video, he sang: “Hello, my name is Professor Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi. Satan, you don lose o, you don pafuka. Na lie lie you dey talk.”
He went on to describe the death speculation as fake, saying, “This is false information that started circulating just hours ago. I, Evangelist Obey, am very much alive. That’s not the message Jesus has written about me.”
The rumour, which surfaced on Monday, triggered concern and condolence messages from fans online.
However, Obey’s personal assistant, Tope Olukole, quickly addressed the situation during a Monday evening interview with TVC, confirming that the music legend was in excellent condition.
“Let’s be clear — Chief Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi is alive and doing well. He even recently celebrated his in-law’s 50th birthday,” Olukole said, calling the rumours “completely baseless and false.”
The fake news emerged just weeks after the celebrated Juju maestro marked his 83rd birthday.
