A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has voiced his disapproval of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s recent visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari’s residence in Kaduna State.
George shared his concerns during an appearance on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’ on Tuesday.
The former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP dismissed Atiku’s push for a coalition, describing it as a strategy aimed at weakening the main opposition party.
Atiku has been advocating for the formation of a mega party to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
His recent meeting with Buhari was seen by some as an effort to rally support for this coalition.
Atiku was accompanied by several political figures, including former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai and former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, during his visit to Buhari.
Reacting to the development, George said, “Those who are now forming a mega party, what is the purpose of it? You’re part of a strong organization, yet you want to pull out.
“You’re meeting with Buhari—Is he a member of our party? Have you discussed your mega party with anyone else in the party? Do you think PDP is a personal venture? PDP is not a private company, and no one owns it.
“You need to bring it up within the party, discuss it, and get approval before moving forward. You don’t just change direction for personal ambitions.”
He continued, “Look at General Buhari shaking hands with these individuals. Is he part of our party? We faced him in the past election, and he defeated you. Now you’re going to him. And when you look at those who visited Buhari, they’re all from one side—where are the other PDP members in this?”
George concluded by questioning Atiku’s intentions, asking, “What is this man trying to achieve with this mega party? Is he attempting to divide Nigeria along regional lines?”
He also called on PDP members to unite and work together for the party’s future, urging them to focus on strengthening the party for the 2027 elections rather than supporting Atiku’s personal agenda to form a mega party.
