Kano Govt. shuts down ‘Holy’ Site where pilgrims drink muddy water

Must read

Authorities in Kano State have dismantled an unauthorized gathering spot where a crowd of pilgrims was flocking to collect and drink muddy water, believing it had divine healing powers linked to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The location, situated near the Dakata Industrial Area, recently cleared for a railway project, began attracting attention after a water-filled footprint-like mark appeared on the ground.

Rumours quickly spread that it was the footprint of the Prophet, drawing hundreds of visitors who came to bathe, drink, and bottle the murky water.

Responding to the situation, Deputy Commander of the Kano Hisbah Board, Muhahideen Aminudeen, stated that the board moved swiftly to curtail the activities after receiving reports of the growing crowd and false claims.

“Some mischief makers circulated this bogus story that the place is a holy site where the Prophet set foot,” Aminudeen said. “Unfortunately, many people who lack sound knowledge of Islam were misled.”

He further explained that Hisbah operatives were deployed to the area to dismantle the makeshift pilgrimage site and educate attendees on the dangers of such misinformation.

“We deployed officers to the scene to educate the people and dismantle the site to prevent further harm,” he noted.

Aminudeen emphasized that there is no historical or religious evidence linking the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to Kano or any part of Africa.

“Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) never visited Africa during his lifetime, let alone Kano,” he stated, urging residents to seek verified Islamic teachings and avoid being misled by sensational rumours.

“This kind of misinformation can lead people astray and even pose health risks,” he warned.

“We call on parents to ensure their children are properly educated in Islamic teachings.”

He also issued a public health warning, advising against consuming the water from the site due to possible contamination, given its closeness to an industrial zone.

The Hisbah Board said it is currently investigating how the false narrative began and urged the public to remain cautious and informed.
