Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has reiterated his disinterest in the pursuit of wealth, claiming he lives a modest lifestyle despite decades in politics.
In a recent interview with Daily Sun, Amaechi disclosed that his wife doesn’t own a car and currently drives one of his backup vehicles.
According to him, this is not due to financial constraints but a reflection of their chosen way of life.
The former presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), who served in key political positions including Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Governor, and Minister, said he has never been linked to any corruption or financial misconduct.
“I’ve been in politics since I was 22 years old—now I’m 60. That’s 38 years in Nigerian politics. What scandal have you heard about me? Have you ever heard ‘Amaechi stole money’? That I was involved in any corruption?” he asked.
“Look around, did you see any luxury cars? My wife doesn’t even have one. She uses my backup car. That’s just how we live—not because we can’t afford more, but because that’s our lifestyle,” he explained.
Amaechi, who played a significant role in the APC’s 2015 electoral victory over the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasized that his political journey has always been about service rather than personal gain.
