Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has ordered the indefinite suspension of Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor, the traditional ruler of Uwano Kingdom, in response to a surge in kidnappings and killings within the area.
Dr. Egabor, who oversees the Uwano Kingdom in Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area, was suspended following a wave of violent incidents that have alarmed the state government.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday from Benin City.
He revealed that the monarch’s suspension came after the arrest of his secretary, Chief Peter Omiogbemhi, by security operatives.
The secretary is reportedly linked to the recent killing of a palace chief, John Ikhamate.
Describing the situation as “deeply troubling,” the state government emphasized its commitment to restoring security and stability in the region.
According to the statement, the move forms part of broader efforts to hold traditional institutions accountable and reinforce their role in maintaining law, order, and communal harmony.
