Dozens injured in renewed clash between Cross-River communities

Several residents, including 32-year-old Samuel Ekpezu, have been injured by gunfire following a resurgence of violence between the Biakpan and Etono II communities in the Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State.

According to intelligence sources, the incident occurred on Monday around 8:55 a.m. at a contested farmland situated between the two communities.

The victim, Samuel Ekpezu, a resident of Biakpan, was reportedly injured in the altercation and is currently receiving care at an undisclosed traditional medical facility.

A police officer from the Biakpan Division confirmed the incident, stating that while the situation remains tense, it is being monitored closely.

Additional security forces have been deployed to the area to prevent further conflict and maintain peace.

The two communities have a history of violent disputes over land ownership.

Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the root cause of the latest outbreak of violence and work toward ensuring long-term peace in the region.
