Again pro-Fubara protesters storm Port Harcourt streets demand governor’s return

Must read

Supporters of the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, staged a peaceful protest in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, calling for his immediate return to office.

Clad in black attire, the demonstrators gathered at Aggrey Road in the Old Port Harcourt Township, holding placards with inscriptions such as “We stand united for Governor Sim Fubara,” “We want our elected Governor back,” and “Fubara represents the pride of Rivers people.”

Governor Fubara was suspended on March 18, 2025, after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state.

The suspension also extended to Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu and members of the State House of Assembly.

The presidency justified the decision by citing serious allegations of misconduct, abuse of office, and activities deemed threatening to public peace and state stability.

Tuesday’s protest is one of several public demonstrations that have erupted across Rivers State since the controversial suspension.

While some factions have backed the federal government’s move, many others have criticized it as being driven by political motives.

Participants in the protest pledged to continue their peaceful campaigns until Governor Fubara is reinstated.

Security forces monitored the march to ensure calm, and there were no incidents of violence.

As of now, the presidency has yet to issue a response to the renewed demands for Fubara’s reinstatement.
