Two actors have been confirmed dead after attending a house party in Owerri, Imo State, on Friday.
The actors, whose names have not been disclosed, were among those who gathered for a celebration after completing a film project.
According to sources, the attendees consumed rice, wine, and calypso, which were provided by the film’s director.
The party lasted into the early hours, but the director, who had gone to bed earlier, woke up to turn off the generator and switch to public power. Upon doing so, he discovered two individuals had died, while two others were in critical condition.
A Facebook post by Kaito Karisia shared that the surviving men were receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Owerri.
The movie director and three women who attended the party have been arrested by the police for questioning.
Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, confirmed the deaths, adding that an investigation was underway to determine the cause.
He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, had instructed that autopsies be performed on the two deceased actors to help clarify the circumstances.
“The command is investigating this sad incident, and we will ensure a thorough examination to establish the cause of death. The findings will determine the next steps,” Okoye said.
