The Lagos State Police Command has addressed growing public concerns surrounding the arrest and remand of 18-year-old Alabi Quadri.

AFRIPOST had reported that Alabi was charged alongside four others over their alleged involvement in a violent outbreak in the Amukoko area earlier this year.

According to a statement released on Saturday, April 19, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspects were linked to a series of violent confrontations that erupted on January 22, 2025, resulting in widespread chaos, destruction of property, and injury to innocent bystanders.

“Groups of youths engaged in violent confrontations that escalated into street fights, causing widespread violence, panic, and chaos in the Amukoko area,” Hundeyin said.

He noted that several victims, including innocent passersby, were robbed and injured during the disturbance.

Prompt action was taken by the police, who launched an immediate investigation into the incident.

“More crucial information was provided by members of the community, some of whom witnessed the incident and recognized several individuals involved.

“Victims of the robbery also came forward to give statements and positively identified the perpetrators,” Hundeyin added.

Following the investigation, Quadri and four others were arrested and charged to court.

The suspects were subsequently remanded to a correctional facility pending the conclusion of legal proceedings.

Addressing concerns about the police’s handling of the case, Hundeyin stressed that all actions taken were in line with due process and backed by credible evidence.

“All police actions taken in this case have followed laid-down procedures and were carried out based on credible evidence gathered during the investigation,” he stated.

He also urged the public to remain calm and allow the judicial process to run its full course.

“The Command remains open to engaging with the general public, opinion groups, and community stakeholders to transparently clarify every concern and ensure justice is served fairly and transparently,” he assured.

Reiterating the police’s commitment to the rule of law and public safety, Hundeyin reminded the public that the role of the police ends once a case is brought before the court, in line with statutory procedures under the Criminal Justice System.

“Members of the general public in Lagos State are enjoined to stay calm and peaceful, and allow peace to reign to ensure justice for all,” the statement concluded.
