Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of betraying the party and colluding with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to weaken its foundation.
His response followed Wike’s recent media appearance in Abuja, where the minister dismissed talks of an opposition coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu.
Wike claimed those championing the move were driven by personal ambitions and had neglected the party’s internal challenges.
Speaking through his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku stated that Wike lacked the moral ground to preach about integrity, arguing that his actions have only served to destabilize the PDP and damage its prospects.
“Wike has no right to talk about sincerity,” Atiku said in a statement to Punch.
“He turned his back on the PDP and is now actively working with the APC to frustrate efforts to revive the party and give Nigerians a better alternative.”
The former vice president also accused Wike of orchestrating political instability in Rivers State in a bid to maintain control of the state government, despite no longer holding office as governor.
Atiku mocked the Tinubu administration, describing the president as being absent and running the country through WhatsApp messages.
He said the coalition Wike condemned is made up of well-meaning Nigerians determined to change the country’s course.
“This is not about personal ambition. It’s about Nigeria. The coalition is a movement to take back our country from the APC’s disastrous governance. Wike simply doesn’t get it,” Atiku concluded.
