Police dismiss alleged arrest of Boko Haram suspects in Lagos

Must read

The Lagos State Police Command has debunked claims that hundreds of Boko Haram suspects were arrested within the state.

Spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin issued a statement on Friday, discrediting a publication circulated in some media outlets dated April 17, 2025.

Hundeyin explained that Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, immediately directed an investigation to verify the claims. Findings showed that no Boko Haram suspects were found, spotted, or detained anywhere in Lagos State.

The police further confirmed that trailer park leaders and workers named in the report denied witnessing or reporting the presence of such individuals.

In addition, officers from the State Intelligence Unit and other departments carried out surveillance in the locations mentioned but uncovered no evidence to support the claims.

Hundeyin labelled the story as completely untrue, stating that it was designed to incite public fear and tension.

He called on residents to ignore the publication and continue their daily routines with confidence in their safety.

He also appealed to journalists and media houses to verify reports before publication to prevent the spread of false information.

Residents were reminded to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or reach out to the police control room via 08063299264.
