The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University (KASU) chapter, is contemplating another round of industrial action, citing the state government’s failure to address lingering issues.
In a statement released on Thursday, ASUU KASU Chairman Peter Adamu disclosed that the union may be forced to resume its strike following the government’s repeated delays and unmet agreements.
ASUU had previously begun an indefinite strike on February 18, 2025, over unresolved demands but suspended the action after six days in hopes of negotiation.
However, Adamu revealed that the state government had since cancelled two planned meetings, signalling what he described as a lack of seriousness in resolving the union’s grievances.
Among the pending issues are unpaid salaries from May to September 2022, outstanding entitlements such as SIWES supervision allowances, earned academic allowances, and promotion arrears.
Others include pension contributions, group life assurance, wage awards, consequential salary adjustments, and the need for full financial autonomy.
Adamu warned that the government appears to have reverted to its old ways, prompting ASUU to reconsider a return to strike.
He emphasized that although the union had shown flexibility in discussions, the state’s inaction was undermining trust.
He urged Governor Uba Sani and other relevant stakeholders to swiftly intervene and prevent a crisis that could disrupt academic activities at KASU once more.
