Adeleke, Makinde step in to prevent crisis over boundary dispute

Must read

In response to escalating tensions between Osun and Oyo states over boundary issues, Governors Ademola Adeleke and Seyi Makinde have taken swift action to prevent potential conflict in the affected communities.

The intervention followed concerns raised by the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, regarding clashes between the people of Iwo and Lagelu local government areas.

Oba Akanbi had alerted the governors about the growing conflict, with accusations that residents of Lagelu were attacking rural Iwo communities, looting farm produce, and setting homes on fire.

The dispute, which is currently under review by the Boundary Commission, had created an atmosphere of fear and unrest.

To address the situation, Governors Adeleke and Makinde convened in Ibadan, where they instructed their deputy governors to visit the disputed regions and engage with the local communities involved.

A statement released by Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, emphasized the need for calm and urged all parties to refrain from further hostilities.

The governors underscored the importance of following legal procedures in resolving the dispute.

The statement read: “Our people are united, and we must seek peaceful resolutions to any unresolved issues. I commend Governor Seyi Makinde for his proactive approach, and our deputy governors will treat this matter with urgency.”
