The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has received accolades from South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) following the successful capture of a high-profile drug trafficker, Ogbonnaya Jeff, after nearly two decades on the run.

Jeff, aged 59, was apprehended on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, by NDLEA’s Special Operations Unit in Lagos.

His arrest comes after 17 years of evading authorities, during which he was placed under an Interpol red notice for allegedly smuggling illegal drugs into South Korea.

Following his detention, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi disclosed that top officials from the NIS visited the agency’s Abuja headquarters.

During the visit, they handed over a formal letter of appreciation from the NIS Director, Taeyong Cho, addressed to NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd).

In the letter, Cho praised the NDLEA’s efficiency and described Ogbonnaya as a significant player in a global drug syndicate.

According to him, Jeff’s capture marked a major achievement in South Korea’s efforts to combat drug trafficking.
