Police reject N1m bribe, arrest two suspected car thieves

The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended two individuals suspected of car theft, turned down a N1 million bribe offer, and recovered a vehicle believed to have been stolen.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq.

According to the statement, the arrest took place on April 11, 2025, at around 3:00 p.m., during a routine patrol by officers from Border Patrol Zone 4 in Birnin Kuka village, Mashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The officers stopped a green Toyota Corolla LE driven by 26-year-old Mubarak Kabir and 27-year-old Adamu Hashim, both residents of Kurna quarters in Fagge LGA, Kano State.

Preliminary findings revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

In an attempt to avoid prosecution, the suspects allegedly offered the officers a N1 million bribe, which was firmly rejected. The suspects were subsequently taken into custody.

Recovered items include the suspected stolen vehicle, the cash sum of N1 million, three mobile phones, a power bank, and a bunch of keys.

DSP Sadiq added that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ criminal activities, with more details to be shared as the inquiry progresses.

Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, CP Bello Shehu, praised their integrity and commitment to duty.

He also reaffirmed the command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property while upholding the principles of justice and respect for human rights.
