Police reacts to officers caught taking cash from Chinese national in viral video

The Nigeria Police Force has distanced itself from the actions of some of its officers seen in a viral video accepting money from a Chinese national, labelling their conduct as unethical and inconsistent with the Force’s standards.

Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, April 17, 2025.

According to him, the behaviour captured in the clip contradicts the professional values and principles expected of police personnel.

He stressed that such misconduct damages public confidence and will not be condoned by the leadership of the Force.

Adejobi confirmed that the officers featured in the video have been identified and are currently undergoing disciplinary action.

“The Nigeria Police Force is aware of a trending video that shows officers taking money from a Chinese individual.

“The act has been strongly denounced and is considered a serious breach of the Force’s ethical code,” the statement read.

The statement also cautioned individuals and groups who engage police officers for escort or guard duties to refrain from acts that could tarnish the Force’s image.
