Security operatives in Benue State have uncovered an illicit arms-manufacturing workshop in Shangev Tiev, a community within Konshisha Local Government Area.
The discovery, made by the state police command’s tactical team, led to the seizure of a locally made AK-47 rifle, live ammunition, and a range of equipment used in crafting firearms.
According to police insiders, the raid was executed around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, following a tip-off regarding suspicious activities linked to a man known only as Tyozer, who is suspected to be behind the operation.
Investigations suggest that the hidden workshop served multiple illegal purposes — from assembling weapons and teaching criminal elements how to handle them, to creating charms believed to be resistant to bullets.
The police revealed that the suspects abandoned the site and escaped into nearby bushes when they spotted the approaching officers.
Among the confiscated materials were an improvised AK-47 rifle, 18 live bullets of various calibres, 20 used shells, two industrial gas cylinders, and numerous metalworking tools presumed to be for arms production.
Authorities say a manhunt is underway for the key suspect and his alleged collaborators, reaffirming their dedication to purging the state of unlawful weapons and criminal activity.
