The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has declared that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is “dead” and predicted that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, will soon return to the ruling party.
Ganduje made this remark on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Tinubu Support Group to the APC national secretariat in Abuja.
He expressed confidence that Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and the current leader of the NNPP, would eventually rejoin the APC, emphasizing that the party remains open to welcoming back members who choose to return.
“We have been receiving prominent politicians and lawmakers from across the country. We are ready to accept anyone who wishes to rejoin the party,” Ganduje stated.
Regarding the NNPP’s decline, Ganduje said the party had lost its significance and was on the brink of collapse.
“The NNPP is dead. It will soon be buried, and I’m hopeful the coffin has already been prepared. What remains is to dig the grave, and that process is already underway,” he remarked.
Ganduje further suggested that despite Kwankwaso’s recent political challenges, the NNPP leader might be contemplating a return to the APC.
“Even now, after losing many of his supporters, the so-called NNPP national leader wants to come back to us. We will welcome him because he is returning home,” Ganduje added.
He also downplayed the opposition’s strength, asserting that any coalition formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s government in the 2027 general election would eventually fall apart.
Ganduje predicted that key figures within such alliances would eventually make their way back to the APC.
