Again gunmen invade Benue community, kill residents in broad daylight

A fresh wave of violence has hit Benue State, as gunmen reportedly launched a brutal attack on Emichi village in Otukpo Local Government Area, leaving several people feared dead.

The assault, which occurred around 2:00 pm on Wednesday, threw the quiet community into chaos as assailants opened fire without warning.

Eyewitnesses say residents fled in different directions to escape the unexpected attack.

With no security agents present during the incident, the attackers operated without resistance, worsening the casualties.

Locals expressed shock and grief over the event, which they say adds to the growing insecurity in the region.

This tragic incident comes just a day after a similarly horrific attack in Otobi-Akpa, where 11 people were slaughtered in an overnight raid allegedly carried out by suspected herdsmen.

Community leaders are now calling on the government to boost security presence in rural areas to curb the rising tide of killings.
