An evening of worship turned violent in the Egbola area of Lokoja, Kogi State, when unidentified gunmen launched an assault on a mountain prayer site, abducting several individuals during a night vigil.

According to reports gathered on Friday, April 11, the attackers invaded the isolated location along Agbaja Road, firing gunshots to cause confusion before dragging several worshippers into the nearby forest.

In a swift response, local vigilantes mobilized to the scene. During the operation, a woman later identified as Mary Adams Gure managed to escape the abductors and was found and rescued by the Kogi State vigilante service.

Security personnel confirmed that the rescue followed an exchange of gunfire between the attackers and the vigilantes.

“Mary was able to flee during the confrontation and was secured by our team,” said one source familiar with the mission.

Efforts to locate and recover the remaining victims are ongoing.

Authorities have yet to disclose the number of people taken during the attack, leaving the exact scale of the incident unclear.
