Police in Kano State have arrested three men suspected of running an illegal arms syndicate and recovered a cache of firearms including 15 locally fabricated rifles and 102 live cartridges.

The arrests, which took place on April 10 in the Dorayi Babba area of the state, followed a tip-off and were carried out by operatives attached to the Kano State Command.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, confirmed the development in a press release late Sunday, adding that efforts were ongoing to uncover the illegal weapons factory linked to the suspects.

“The suspects, Abdul Sadiq, 43; Ahmad Muazu, 22; and Aliyu Sharif, 40, were caught in possession of a substantial cache of illegal firearms,” said ACP Adejobi.

“Investigators are working to locate the site of manufacture and apprehend other accomplices involved in the operation.”

Also recovered were six expended cartridges believed to have been used in previous criminal activities.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, lauded the successful operation, stressing that the fight against the proliferation of illegal arms is a top priority for the Force.

He reassured Nigerians that security agencies remain committed to protecting lives and restoring peace nationwide.
