A final-year student of the Higher National Diploma (HND) program in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, has tragically passed away.
The deceased, identified as John, was reportedly in his final year at the institution located in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on Saturday when John, who had left his off-campus student lodge to attend Karate training, suddenly collapsed as soon as he entered the training area.
According to eyewitnesses, he was quickly rushed to a private hospital but was later referred to the Ikot Ekpene General Hospital for further treatment.
Mr. Nsoefen Akpan, the president of the Journalism and Media Studies Students Association (JAMSSA), who was present at the hospital, shared that after a thorough examination, the doctor at the Ikot Ekpene General Hospital declared John dead upon arrival.
Despite this declaration, the students, unable to accept the news of his passing, took John’s body to a church in hopes of divine intervention.
However, another spiritualist, who attempted to revive him, declared that John had already crossed into the spirit world and could not be revived.
At this point, the students returned John’s body to the mortuary.
The news of the sudden death has left the student community in shock.
