Eight candidates shortlisted for teaching positions under the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) have lost their spots after testing positive for banned substances.
TESCOM Chairman Bello Taoheed Abubakar made the announcement on Monday, April 14, 2025, revealing that the disqualified individuals were found with traces of drugs such as tramadol, marijuana, benzodiazepine, amphetamine, and cotinine in their systems.
The screening was carried out by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) with the backing of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
According to the TESCOM statement, those disqualified will be replaced by the next best-performing candidates from their respective LGAs.
The agency reiterated the state government’s firm stance against drug use, particularly within its education sector.
Abubakar praised the governor’s commitment to merit-based recruitment and his resolve to maintain high standards in public education.
