A fresh protest has emerged in Rivers State as a group of women took to the streets in support of the state’s current Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), and President Bola Tinubu’s recent declaration of a state of emergency.
The demonstrators, holding placards and banners, marched through key areas of Port Harcourt, expressing their backing for the emergency rule.
They also called for a full investigation into what they described as “overpriced contracts” allegedly awarded during the suspended administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
This demonstration comes just days after another protest by a different group of women who opposed Fubara’s suspension and rejected the emergency declaration.
President Tinubu announced the state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, citing political unrest and a breakdown in governance.
The decision, which has drawn criticism from various quarters, resulted in the suspension of Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the State Assembly.
In response, Tinubu appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibas to manage the state as sole administrator for a six-month period.
Since assuming office, Ibas has suspended several officials and begun appointing new heads to various state institutions.
