The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a former convict and returnee from Malaysia, Ndubuisi Udatu, for attempting to traffic methamphetamine hidden in two large music speakers.

The suspect, also known as Richard, was caught with four parcels of the illicit substance, weighing approximately 2.7 kilograms, which were intended for distribution in Adamawa State and across the border into Cameroon.

According to a statement released on Sunday by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the arrest took place on April 7 at a checkpoint in Namtari, located along the Ngurore-Yola road.

Udatu was traveling in a commercial bus when he was intercepted by NDLEA operatives, who also recovered N22,300 in cash from him.

In his confession, the suspect admitted to returning to Nigeria to continue drug trafficking after completing a prison sentence in Malaysia for a similar offence.

In another operation conducted in collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service at the Mfum border in Cross River State, NDLEA officers arrested a 33-year-old trans-border trafficker, Peter Odoh.

He was found in possession of 8,740 ampoules of opioids, with a total weight of 395 kilograms.

The seized items included 1,080 ampoules of fentanyl, 2,160 of morphine sulphate, 3,010 of phenobarbital sulphate, 2,160 of pethidine, and 330 ampoules of midazolam.

Elsewhere in Kano State, operatives arrested a 27-year-old man, Aliyu Ibrahim, with 20 ATM cards and 25,600 tablets of tramadol in the Bachirawa area on April 11.

Additionally, a follow-up investigation led to the arrest of 48-year-old Gambo Lawan at Wazobia motor park in Gwagwalada, Abuja.

This came after NDLEA officers seized 8,960 tramadol pills during a routine highway inspection on April 7.

On the same day, along the Mokwa-Jebba road in Niger State, a suspect identified as Ademiluyi Adedapo, 58, was caught transporting 124 kilograms of skunk cannabis, packed in 11 jumbo bags, in the trunk of a Lexus vehicle with registration number KTU 54 CU.

The NDLEA continues to combine its anti-drug operations with its “War Against Drug Abuse” (WADA) advocacy initiative, reaching out to schools, places of worship, markets, and communities. NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa praised the commitment of officers involved in the recent operations across Adamawa, Cross River, FCT, Kano, and Niger States.
