Wike’s Aide lashes ex-Rivers Governor over lack of development

Must read

Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has lashed out at Rufus Ada George, a former governor of Rivers State, for his tenure in office.

In a statement released on Thursday, Olayinka challenged Ada George to name any significant positive development during his time as governor.

He argued that the only notable legacy associated with Ada George’s leadership was the rise of the “Bush Boys” militant group, which Olayinka claimed was used to settle political scores.

The minister’s spokesperson further questioned Ada George’s relationship with his former deputy, Peter Odili, after leaving office in 1993.

Olayinka pointed out that Ada George had failed to support Odili’s governorship campaigns in 1999 and 2003.

Olayinka also accused Ada George of backing the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his “lawless regime.”

He criticized Ada George for not standing up to Fubara’s actions, which he described as a blatant disregard for the rule of law.

“The same Ada George, who sided with Fubara during his disregard for the rule of law, now criticizes others while failing to address the illegal actions under Fubara’s leadership,” Olayinka said in the statement.

“He never spoke out against the illegal operations of the Rivers State House of Assembly, which was run with just three members instead of the full 32, and he did nothing as fellow indigenes suffered from withheld salaries and entitlements.”

Olayinka advised Ada George, now nearing 85 years old, to refrain from publicly criticizing others and urged him to stop “shamelessly advertising his actions.”

He also questioned Ada George’s stance on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s involvement in resolving the crisis in Rivers State, accusing him of opposing the president’s intervention, which helped resolve the political standoff.

“Now, at nearly 85 years old, Ada George criticizes others while failing to hold Fubara accountable for depriving Rivers State lawmakers of their entitlements,” Olayinka added.

“Didn’t he also call President Tinubu a ‘meddlesome interloper’ for stepping in to resolve the crisis in Rivers?”
