A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has rejected a motion filed by loyalists of former Governor Nyesom Wike, seeking permission to appeal a judgment that removed them from their positions as executives of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State.
The motion was filed by William Fialasoika and 24 other individuals who challenged the PDP over the state’s conduct of ward, local government, and state congresses, despite an earlier court order halting the process.
The court had previously ruled that the PDP executives in Rivers State, who were loyal to Wike, were unlawfully elected through congresses held in defiance of the court’s order.
On January 13, 2025, Justice Stephen Jumbo nullified the congresses that led to the election of these executives, including the state’s chairman, Chukwuemeka Aaron, as well as local and ward executives.
In response to the ruling, the sacked executives, including Aaron, Igenewari Fubara (local government), and Thankgod Beke (ward executives), sought permission to appeal the decision.
They argued as interested parties in the case.
However, Justice Jumbo dismissed their application on the grounds that the PDP, as the defendant in the original case, had already filed an appeal against the judgment that nullified the congresses, rendering their motion unnecessary.
The ruling solidifies the earlier judgment that effectively ousted the Wike loyalists from their positions within the PDP in Rivers State.
