The rift within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has deepened, with Senator Nicholas Tofowomo publicly criticizing the party’s leadership for what he described as betrayal.
Tofowomo, a prominent party figure, accused the leadership of deceiving Kennedy Peretei, the party’s former spokesperson, by going back on their promise regarding the state chairmanship position.
This, he said, led to Peretei’s resignation from the party.
“The party leadership owes Peretei an apology for the way they treated him and for betraying his trust,” Tofowomo said.
“They had invited Peretei to show interest in the chairmanship position, and if they hadn’t done so, I wouldn’t be this upset. The outcome of our election was disastrous, with the party losing in all 18 local government areas — it was 18-0.”
He continued, “Am I to blame for the party’s failure in other local governments, including in Ajayi’s ward? Isn’t it on record that our candidate didn’t even win in his own ward? I am a loyal member of the PDP and have consistently fulfilled my obligations to the party.”
