The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a probe into a tragic mob attack that claimed one life and left another individual seriously wounded in the Lushi area of the state.

The incident, which occurred on the night of April 9, involved two men—one identified as Peter, who was killed on the spot, and 38-year-old Dokagk Danladi, who suffered severe machete injuries.

According to a police statement released by spokesperson Ahmed Wakil, the victims were accused of stealing a dog before being assaulted by a group of angry youths around 11:30 p.m.

Danladi was immediately taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for treatment, while Peter was confirmed dead at the scene.

A police team led by the Divisional Police Officer visited the area to gather evidence and track down those behind the attack.

Wakil said the investigation is ongoing and assured that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

Condemning the violent act, Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu labelled it a “barbaric violation of the rule of law.”

He stressed that citizens have no authority to enforce justice themselves and called for all crime suspects to be handed over to the police.

Aliyu assured the public that mob justice would not be tolerated in the state and urged residents to stay calm as investigations continue.
