A 400-level student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, Augustine Madubiya, who was abducted from an off-campus residence, has been rescued by security agents.

According to Abdulrahman Zagga, Director of Security in the Kebbi State Cabinet Office, the student was freed in the Dakingari forest following a police operation that tracked the kidnappers’ trail.

The rescue was announced on Thursday, April 10, with Zagga noting that the student is currently receiving medical evaluation as a precaution.

Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, visited the scene of the abduction alongside Police Commissioner Sani Bello and the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Zaiyan Muhammad.

Speaking during the visit, the Deputy Governor reiterated the state’s commitment to student safety in all tertiary institutions and confirmed that the victim is undergoing hospital checks.

Police Commissioner Bello revealed that the kidnappers abandoned the student after intense pressure from the police, emphasizing that no ransom was paid.

Vice Chancellor Zaiyan Muhammad used the opportunity to highlight the problem of limited hostel space, which pushes many students to live off campus.

He called on individuals and organizations to support efforts in improving student accommodation.

Authorities assured that security around the university will be intensified to prevent future incidents.
