Okpebholo launches Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign in Edo

Must read

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced the commencement of his campaign efforts for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor disclosed this while receiving Hon. Kaycee Osamwonyi, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Osamwonyi, who represents the Uhunmwonde Constituency and is part of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, was earlier welcomed into the APC fold by the state party chairman, Jarrett Tenebe.

He was later presented to Governor Okpebholo at the Government House in Benin City.

Governor Okpebholo praised the defector for his decision and expressed optimism about the party’s growing strength in the state.

He emphasized that more politicians from other parties are preparing to join the APC and described the influx as a sign of confidence in his administration’s leadership.

While addressing the gathering, the governor assured new members of full inclusion and support in their efforts to contribute to the progress of the state.

He highlighted Uhunmwonde’s significance and pledged to work with Osamwonyi and others to bring more development to the area.

He also used the opportunity to rally support for President Tinubu’s second term, revealing that campaign activities had already begun in Edo State.

APC Chairman Jarrett Tenebe remarked that Osamwonyi’s defection had further strengthened the party, giving it a majority in the State House of Assembly.

He attributed the move to the achievements recorded under Governor Okpebholo’s leadership in the short time since he took office.

In his remarks, Osamwonyi said internal disagreements within the PDP and the governor’s developmental projects influenced his decision to switch parties.

He described his return to the APC as a homecoming, emphasizing his desire to see his constituents benefit from ongoing and future government initiatives, many of which were reflected in the state’s budget.
