Buba Galadima, a prominent figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has alleged that former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is covertly representing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar within the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In an interview with AIT, Galadima expressed disbelief over Atiku’s willingness to collaborate with El-Rufai, recalling the latter’s past criticisms of the former vice president.
According to him, El-Rufai once advised Atiku to focus on his family and claimed he would never lead Nigeria.
Galadima dismissed El-Rufai’s political influence, pointing out his failure to secure electoral victories even while in office.
He noted that during the 2020 elections, under El-Rufai’s governorship, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won all three senatorial seats and 12 out of 14 House of Representatives seats in Kaduna State.
He argued that El-Rufai, now out of office and at odds with his successor, lacks the grassroots support to deliver votes.
Labeling the emerging SDP coalition as ineffective and full of empty rhetoric, Galadima maintained that the NNPP was better positioned to unify the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This comes after Atiku, El-Rufai, and several other notable politicians unveiled a coalition under the SDP banner.
Following the announcement, former SDP presidential candidate Adewale Adebayo revealed that talks are ongoing to bring Atiku, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and others into the party.
Adebayo stated that the coalition’s goal is to challenge and unseat President Bola Tinubu in the next presidential race.
