The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has directed radio and television stations across Nigeria to halt the broadcast of the newly released song “Tell Your Papa” by veteran rapper Eedris Abdulkareem.
In an internal memo dated April 9, 2025, and signed by the Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring, Susan Obi, the commission classified the song as “Not To Be Broadcast” (NTBB), citing Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
This regulation prohibits any material considered offensive or against public morality from being aired.
NBC said although the track is gaining traction on social media, its lyrics do not conform to the ethical standards required for public broadcast.
“The song ‘Tell Your Papa’ by Eedris Abdulkareem has been deemed inappropriate for airplay due to its objectionable content,” the commission stated.
“We urge your station to act with discretion and refrain from airing it to uphold responsible broadcasting values.”
Released earlier this week, the track criticizes Nigeria’s current socio-economic woes and specifically targets Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
Abdulkareem calls on the younger Tinubu to speak to his father about the harsh realities Nigerians face.
In the lyrics shared online, Abdulkareem raps: “Seyi, tell your papa country hard… Tell your papa this one don pass jagajaga… Try travel by road without your security make you feel the pains of fellow Nigerians.”
