Two female workers at a zobo processing factory in Gezawa, Kano State, tragically drowned after entering a body of water to bathe following their shift.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
The agency said it received an emergency alert at approximately 11:15 am from the local vigilante commander in Gezawa, prompting immediate response efforts.
Public Relations Officer of the agency, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, said, “Relatives of the victims informed us that the women entered the water after work to clean themselves, which unfortunately led to the fatal outcome.”
According to Abdullahi, search operations began late Monday evening after the women were reported missing.
Their bodies were eventually recovered the following day.
“We recovered the victims in an unconscious state and handed them over to a police officer, Musa Garba, at the Gezawa Police Division,” he added.
At the time of this report, the identities of the deceased had not been made public.
