IG deploys tactical teams to address Plateau attack

In response to the recent wave of deadly attacks in Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the swift deployment of tactical police units and advanced security equipment to affected communities.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, this action follows a series of violent incidents in Bokkos Local Government Area that began on March 28, 2025.

The Police Chief’s decision reflects a firm commitment to restoring order, protecting lives, and ensuring that those behind the attacks are held accountable.

To lead this critical operation, Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Kwazhi Yakubu, has been directed to coordinate the deployment.

The intervention includes elite tactical officers, surveillance drones, Armored Personnel Carriers, Police Mobile Force units, helicopters, and Special Intervention Squad personnel, all aimed at quelling the violence and restoring calm.

Adejobi noted that these resources will be strategically positioned to carry out special operations targeting the root causes of the crisis and preventing further bloodshed.

The police spokesperson recounted that the violence started with a deadly ambush in Bokkos on March 28, which claimed multiple lives and left many others wounded.

Since then, there has been a disturbing escalation of attacks, with communities living in fear and mourning numerous casualties.

Acknowledging the seriousness of the crisis, the IGP directed DIG Yakubu and the deployed forces to adopt a broad strategy—one that not only addresses the immediate violence but also lays the foundation for long-term stability.

Upon arriving in Plateau State on April 8, 2025, DIG Yakubu met with Governor Caleb Mutfwang to express condolences on behalf of the police leadership.

The meeting allowed both parties to assess the security situation directly, examine underlying issues, and explore lasting solutions to the conflict.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its dedication to partnering with the state government, local leaders, security agencies, and stakeholders to achieve peace in the region.

Residents were also encouraged to support law enforcement efforts by sharing useful information that could aid investigations and peacekeeping efforts.
