A young boy who captured national attention during the 2023 general elections for boldly stopping the convoy of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is now being held at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos for alleged involvement in theft and street fighting.
Although his identity remains undisclosed as of the time of reporting, sources indicate that the incident occurred as he was returning from work.
Local residents accused him of stealing and engaging in a street brawl. The police later arrested him, and he was taken to court before being remanded in custody.
A user on X (formerly Twitter), Nurudeen Hassana, shared details of the case, revealing she had accompanied the boy’s mother to his most recent court session at Orege Court in Ajegunle on March 27, 2025.
The hearing was postponed to April 28 as the court awaits advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
“Do you guys remember this picture? Well, the boy in front of this convoy is languishing in Kirikiri prison,” Hassana wrote via her handle @Hausa_girl.
“I’ve spoken with his mother, and we also went to his last court hearing… Case file is currently at DPP. The boy is innocent… he’s just a victim!”
Hassana further explained that the boy had been struggling with people’s expectations after he received financial gifts during the election campaign.
“He’s suffering from the entitlement people had when he was gifted money during the last election.”
