The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a mix of sunny weather and thunderstorms across different regions of the country from Tuesday to Thursday.

In its weather outlook issued on Monday in Abuja, NiMet stated that the northern part of Nigeria would experience mostly sunny skies throughout the forecast period starting Tuesday.

The North Central region is expected to see sunny intervals with patches of clouds, alongside the likelihood of isolated thunderstorms in areas including the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kwara, and Kogi during the afternoon and evening.

For southern Nigeria, morning thunderstorms are likely in parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

Later in the day, scattered thunderstorms are predicted over several states including Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, and Bayelsa.

By Wednesday, sunny conditions will continue across the North, with a chance of morning thunderstorms in southern Taraba.

The North Central is expected to have a mix of sun and clouds, with afternoon or evening thunderstorms likely in the FCT, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Kogi.

In the South, cloudy skies and intermittent sunshine are anticipated, with morning thunderstorms expected in parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom.

Thunderstorms may also occur later in the day in areas like Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Oyo, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, and Edo.

On Thursday, sunny skies are projected to persist across the northern states. The North Central region will likely experience cloudy conditions with isolated thunderstorms in parts of the FCT, Plateau, and Nasarawa later in the day.

In the southern region, morning thunderstorms may occur in parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom, followed by more widespread thunderstorms across states such as Oyo, Ondo, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Edo, Bayelsa, Lagos, Delta, and Rivers by afternoon and evening.

NiMet urged Nigerians to stay in cool, ventilated spaces and drink plenty of water to prevent heat-related health issues, as high temperatures remain a concern.

It also advised the public to get vaccinated against meningitis, practice good hygiene, wear nose masks, and avoid crowded areas.

People were further cautioned to limit outdoor activities during peak sun hours (12 p.m. to 3 p.m.) and be mindful of strong winds that could precede thunderstorms.

NiMet advised airline operators to obtain specific weather updates for better flight planning and encouraged residents to stay informed through official weather updates via its website, www.nimet.gov.ng.
