The Ondo State Police Command has issued a warning regarding a planned protest set to take place on Monday, April 7, 2025, allegedly being organized by the Take It Back Movement and its affiliated groups.
In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the police acknowledged the rights of citizens to peaceful protest and freedom of expression.
However, the Command expressed concern that the current economic climate and security situation make this an unsuitable time for such demonstrations.
“The Command has received credible intelligence about the proposed protest, and while peaceful assembly is a constitutional right, the timing raises serious concerns,” the statement read.
“There is a high risk that the protest could be hijacked by criminal elements, which may lead to a disruption of public order.”
The police further appealed to the organizers and supporters of the movement to consider alternative, peaceful means of expressing their grievances, including dialogue and negotiation.
Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfried Olutokunbo Afolabi, has reportedly directed security operatives across the state—including Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Teams—to heighten surveillance and ensure key locations remain secure.
Residents were assured of their safety, with the police emphasizing that robust security measures are already in place to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
Parents and guardians were also urged to discourage their children and wards from taking part in any activity that may jeopardize the state’s peace.
The Command called on the public to remain calm, go about their lawful activities without fear, and promptly report any suspicious movements to the nearest security agency.
