Life is more than money — Nurse leaves U.S for in Nigeria

Judith Okoli, a Nigerian nurse, has become the center of attention after making the bold decision to leave her nursing career in the United States and relocate permanently to Nigeria in search of a more meaningful and balanced life.

At a time when many Nigerians are seeking opportunities abroad, Okoli’s move has sparked widespread conversations about happiness, well-being, and the true essence of a fulfilling life.

In an emotional video shared online, Okoli, speaking in Pidgin English, explained, “People keep asking me, ‘Why would you leave America? Are you okay? You want to suffer in Nigeria?’ But I want people to know that money isn’t everything — at least not for everyone. Not for me.”

She revealed that her decision was not impulsive, but rather a result of careful reflection and a growing awareness that financial success doesn’t necessarily lead to emotional satisfaction.

“You can earn N100 and still feel miserable — stressed, undervalued, and disconnected. Meanwhile, someone else earns N50, but is happy, spends time with family, sleeps well, and enjoys life,” Okoli shared, emphasizing that true fulfillment lies in the quality of life, not just financial wealth.

Okoli also pointed out the toll that the pursuit of higher earnings abroad has taken on personal relationships and family unity.

“Look at what life in the West is doing to us,” she said. “Families are being torn apart — one sibling in Germany, another in Canada, another in Dubai. Some haven’t seen each other in years, all in the name of chasing a better life. But at what cost?”

Her perspective has sparked significant discussion online, with many reflecting on the mental and emotional challenges associated with migration and questioning the conventional definition of success in modern society.
