Former Oyo State Governor, Chief Victor Omololu Olunloyo, has passed away at the age of 89, just days shy of his 90th birthday.
The news of his death was confirmed through a statement released by Barrister Oladapo Ogunwusi on behalf of the Olunloyo family.
“With heavy hearts but with gratitude to God, we announce the passing of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, mathematician, engineer, and distinguished technocrat, just a few days before his 90th birthday,” the statement read.
Dr. Olunloyo, who held the titles of Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife, was a well-respected statesman with an illustrious public service career. He was the first Rector of both The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and Kwara State Polytechnic, in addition to holding other significant positions throughout his career.
“His remarkable service to the nation and humanity is a legacy that fills his family and associates with pride, even as we grapple with this painful loss,” the statement further added.
The family has requested privacy during this time of mourning and shared that plans for his funeral are currently being made.
